NOTICE: The Facebook Group will be retired in ~30 days!

Earlier this week the new LAFB Elite Community went live! This has been a long time in the making, but it's finally here.

So, you may be wondering, "What about the Facebook group?"

For years we had used a private Facebook group to function for LAFB Elite's community. It worked, very much in the same way you live somewhere temporarily while waiting for something permanent to come along (kind of like a college dorm: you don't live there your entire life).

But I never meant for LAFB Elite to remain on Facebook permanently. This is for a slew of reasons, a lot of which I will have to write an entire blog post in order to fully explain my motivations (if anyone is so inclined to know). In short, they're everything from practical to ethical.

So, the Facebook group is getting canned. The end.

But not right away! I understand that there are fishing reports and other posts in there that you, the inshore angler, may want to retain.

So this news update is a notice that the LAFB Elite Facebook Group will be retired aka "unceremoniously yeeted into the trash bin of the Internet".

If there is something you want to keep (i.e. a past fishing report) then I recommend screenshotting it or copying/pasting the text and downloading the pictures.

Unfortunately, I cannot migrate the posts inside a Facebook group into a website's forum, much less that of LAFB Elite.

You'd go to think that a multi-hundred-billion dollar company would have some kind of database interface for admins, but they do not...which says a lot about what they're actually concerned with (hint: it's not the communities).

Honestly, I know most people don't look at past reports. They only look at what's been recently posted. But I think past reports are useful! Even though I understand that — if I never said anything about this that very few would have thought about it — I still thought it would be wise to say something aloud here.

When will the Facebook group be deleted?

I don't have a solid date on that yet, it really depends on how quickly members adopt the new platform, which has been pretty darned quick! So I am guessing about 30 days, maybe more. Which is plenty of time.

In the meantime, no new members are being added to the Facebook group and people are being slowly removed in order to have the group retired.

If you have any questions or concerns then please post them below.

Tight lines, and thanks for reading this news update!
