Thanks for that report. I frequent the Rigolets and Lake P area often. Good to hear there is a lot of action out there. Its just going to get better.

This is interesting. How do I find this information? Gates/locks at chef pass and rigolets pass? I wonder how that would change things

Great report. Thank you for sharing. I went out to EBM today. Calm in the AM, but about the time I was getting across Borgne, I noticed some large swell starting. Wind mostly out of the east and getting stronger, so those oyster reefs that have been productive for me around Fox bay, Deepwater pass, Elephant point pass, etc were just not kicking today. Water was dirty because of those east winds.

Ran back to bayou marron and into the bayou biloxi, but nothing was really kicking. I did see some birds, but only dinks. Got back into Borgne and it was way worse than I left it. I tried to stop at the reef and rigs on my way back to the L&N, but it just wasn’t right. Ran quickly through counterfeit pass on the way back since I like that place on a falling tide, but nothing. Ran back through Catherine hoping to see a few birds on my way back to my lake house by the twin span, but nothing.

Bummer day, it had been on FIRE in those areas for me as of late, but those EAST winds were formidable and the east EBM has no protection. Otherwise, it was sunny and not really hot at all. Water temps in AM @ 83 and when getting back were @ 88. Cant wait for a good cold front!

Took the boat out the water today (usually in a slip mostly) and going to do all the servicing needed to get ready for this awesome fall that is hopefully gonna be on fire!

I love the heavy drop shot. Devin has an awesome video about it on the new channel.

I think you can work it like a jig (kind of), but more small movements rather than large pulls. Basically, if you have 12″ in between the bait and weight and have a tight line, you should be close to the strike zone for when they are at the bottom. So even a slow straight retrieve would theoretically keep the bait in the target zone.

As for fishing that mid-range depth in deep waters, that is a good question. I’m sure someone will have a better idea than I, but with a 1/2 – 3/4oz jig head, I would cast and count to 15-20 second and then start a straight retrieve. Also at that depth, you might be able to to just drop it straight down and slowly troll over the top of them. Idk, just a thought.

Thanks for that awesome report, but not so awesome trip. Come to think of it, I have never fished that area before.

I agree, we should post more of our not so great fishing trips. I’m also guilty of that.

Thanks for that report. Much 👍.

Listen….we all LOVE plastic. It’s SO easy. Each little drop of the cork doesn’t meant you have to reel it in and rebait……just for you (like all of us) give a hard nice cast and see your cork go the opposite direction of the bait and say….dang.

But, in my opinion, if you are gonna run that far…..12.00 in live shirmp has a strong return in investment. Lol

I love the Northern EBM. I wish to tell more people about it, but at the same time I don’t. It’s the most perfect “day vacation” of sorts.

    Easy access

    No one around.

    No pressure

Wide open to see birds for miles, never leave home without a good pair of binoculars.

Oyster reefs are Awesome. I LOVE the way they look on the side scan and recommend loading their coordinates on GED. There is a ton out there that are unmarked.

It’s a great place for summer, but stay on the eastern side. If you are like me, coming 15-20 miles to get there, then you can make the most if it. Pack a lunch.

There is a lot to learn about this desolate, yet very biodiverse place to fish.

Glad you had a great trip. Thanks for the report. Keeps punching deep in the summer. You can make the EBM a hot summer spot.

I have fished the rigs and reef in Lake Borgne in the last few weeks. There are nice fish there no doubt, but be prepared to do some hopping around. Each rig/reef seems to have its own “personality” per se. I have not fished the reef to the east of half moon island, but the one in the middle of Lake B is almost always worth a few casts. Just my experience, I find the smaller chair wells seem to hold more fish on average although I have had good days before at the big rig right out the L&N (30° 7.919’N, 89° 35.611’W).

I totally agree. The EBM (very eastern part) is hitting on all cylinders now. Went out with my family the other day and smashed the trout. There were some hammers out there. Great post.

Thanks for the reply, Devin. I have spent the better part of the weekend planning to run out to the EBM tomorrow. I will post a fishing report, but mostly going to see where things lead me starting with either:

    1) a slow sunrise troll in bayou Magill and then Bayou Biloxi down to Bobs Lakes and then oyster reefs (and exploring) the remainder of the day.

    2) The other is the same except once hitting Bobs Lakes and then exploring the Lakes of Marron area. (staying in the marsh most of the day)

    3) Start at Bayou Grande and work my way to Bobs Lakes and then exploring the Lakes of Marron area.

    See attached

The problem (or so at least I think AND the reason for this post) is that rising tide all morning and into early afternoon. A lot of these areas are new to me.

Based on your reply, I’ll probably go with number 1 which has a lot of non shrimp spots.

Much appreciated. I’ll post a report

Okay try this one. Click this link. It will generate the KML file for you to your specifications and you can add to GED. Its pretty interesting and clutch to have.

    https://services2.coastalresilience.org/arcgis/rest/services/Gulf_of_Mexico/Louisiana/MapServer/generateKml

Should look like the attached picture

Also, dont forget about the LDWF Oyster map: https://gis.wlf.la.gov/oystermap/map.html

Went out on 7/24 and punched deep right to the edge of the sound. Fished oyster reefs around Redfish Bend and Drum sound. Had a massive day. 55 specks and some nice size white trout all kept. Almost no dinks. Lots of Gaftops and they were huge (snapped two poles), but with plastic kind of weeded them out somewhat.

I have seen people fishing in the areas you were around the reef, Isle P, and flatboat key and its been a mixed bag, but overall what I have heard/read sounds promising. Only issue where you fished is that its a hot spot for MS gulf coast residents so can be tough in that regard.

Here is a link you can add to GED network folder to get all the oyster reefs to pop up if you dont have it already:

Create new “Network Link” and add this url to the link address line:
    https://services2.coastalresilience.org/arcgis/services/Gulf_of_Mexico/Louisiana/MapServer/KmlServer?Composite=true&LayerIDs=31&
