Barry, i have experience this exact issue, particularly in winter fishing the MRGO. I cant say ive solved the issue, but i’ve figured out some things that help.

Wet the line and both knots before pulling the knots tight.

I try not to use heavier leader line, than my main line. (thinking if it breaks, id rather the leader break so i can quickly retie.

Try swapping to a different brand of line. I was trying one brand and it was horrible. Like 100% of the time, if snagged, it would break at the uni knot causing me to have to retie a leader line.

And lastly, you can also go back to using straight mono, but honestly its tough to go back.

Yeah I’m with Devin no special treatment. But then again every fishing shirt I have has spots on it from blood, or grease or whatever else.

The Heavy drop is under rated…

The way i fish it is casting it out and letting it get to the bottom. Then remove slack… You can lift and lower it, bounce it, steady retrieve it… You can even just let it sit. If you google bass fishing videos on using a drop shot, they have great info… One of the best techniques is keeping the weight on bottom, and just twitch the rod enough to move the line, but not lift the weight… It gives that weightless life like action… It will entice fish to bite, similar to throwing super light jigs….. that long slow falling appearance triggers them to bite.

If im fishing in more than 10′ of water, or areas that have quick depth changes ( or im not sure), the drop shot ensures im on bottom, even if im fishing a pass with 20′ of moving water.

While obviously it’s the boat operators fault, I have a hard time blaming them without knowing for sure. She appears to be having a bad enough time without me piling on.

You’d be surprised(probably not) how many people I watched flying thru that area today. In the dark no less… I can’t fix them. Only try to warn others

I’ve decided to just replace the boards myself. Initially I thought I’d just re carpet them, that isn’t happening. The boards they used had knots right at the meeting edges….the left staples just laying on the boards between the carpet… wtf?! Smh

So I have a question, I’m just looking for 2”x6”x13’ boards, but what type of wood should I use? I know they make “marine wood” and pressure treated… I know they make those plastic board but they are insanely priced.

Also what are these circular bolts called? They are bolts but no head, they appear to hammer into a counter sunk hole.

    Thanks in advance

Yeah, the “no adventurous buddies” thing stops me from doing a lot of things. My “buddies” are my kids lol

100% on the reef thing. I see people all group the bouy but the reef isn’t that close to it

Thanks. I thought the same thing with the weed wacker… it’s something I’m planning. My stepson is getting a little older and maybe could handle it. This isn’t one to bring the little kids on though lol. That was my initial thought, family camp on cat island, quickly realized that wouldn’t work with the bugs. The kids freak over moths, being swarmed by deer flies would’ve had us packing back in the dark or some crap lol

Honestly the deer flies were so bad I started having like an allergic reaction to so many bites. Like gnats but deer flies
