100% costas glass lenses only.
I’ve tried a number of different brands and price ranges. They all suffer from the same failure for me personally. The reflective chromatic coating. On all plastic lenses, that coating is exposed on the exterior. The moment it is scratched, the coating will begin to flake off rapidly.
Whereas the costas GLASS lens, not the polycarbonate/plastic lenses, that chrome coating is sandwiched between two layers of glass. If you need to wipe them with your shirt, they won’t scratch. They are a little more expensive than the plastic lenses and they are a little heavier, but the durability is top notch. I personally will never buy anything but the glass lenses costas because of that reason
Also when my costas broke, they just sent me a new pair. My Oakley shades at twice the price, dont have that kind of customer support.

If you go the costa route look online for deals. They say the green lenses are the best for sight fishing….

So I (kinda) installed the steps. I can see why the expensive ones cost what they do.
These universal ones just are not well thought out. First off this particular one must be installed on the starboard side or on the tongue, I would prefer if it attached to winch post for the port side since that’s the side of the truck I get out of. For my trailer installing them on the tongue for my trailer would make clearance an issue when backing up (like when I back it into my drive way, they would likely go through my tail gate.
Then installed on the starboard side, they really don’t come out far enough to clear the deck of the boat. I wasn’t able to install the hand rail because of the design (see photo, that photo was taken without them fully installed, fully installed I have no clearance)
I suppose on a smaller boat (lower deck) or one with a longer tongue, and no surge brakes, they may work just fine. I haven’t used them while launching yet but for my boat they are like a 3 out of 10 rating from me.

so I fixed my trailer’s wheel fender step pad yesterday. And I ordered the cheaper Amazon steps and they came in today but since I worked all night last night so I’ll probably hold off a day to install them. They were $169 on Amazon so expectations aren’t super high but I’ll report back once they are installed

Welcome. Love staying at the Island marina. Angie and company were always good to me. Just couldn’t budget staying there any longer when cheaper alternatives were around. Hope you find what you’re looking for. Tight lines

I reached out to Daiwa to see if they will help, Surprisingly they replied back and said they would help me find a solution. Not totally resolved yet, but if they stand behind their product, i will gladly update this post saying what the resolution was and continue to endorse the product.

Chef harbor is coming along nicely. 1000x nicer than south shore marina. They just installed a second ramp. They have a restroom with lights and a sink ( i say lights because i know south shore only has a port-a-potty , which is fun in the dark lol). Chef habor also has a cleaning table, but its not much of one. No power running to it, so i bring an extension cord to run from their slips. The owner, or at least the guy who is running it (not 100% sure) is super friendly. Always thanks me for launching there.
I believe they are building a convenience store. And on this trip i mentioned to the guy about the lack of a quality cleaning station, which he acknowledged saying they plan on building something nicer.
Currently they do have an automated ice machine( havent used it) and during shrimp season they offer live shrimp they catch using their wing nets. And was told he planned on keeping frozen shrimp year round. Although if your a live bait guy, south shore is probably more consistent in carrying live bait, youd have to try and see how it goes. I do know he leaves early though. He’s there at 6am and gone by around 11am

This guy is one of the top tagger’s for tag Louisiana, i think he can find fish, he posts multiple trips a week even when no one else is posting. But they are more of bragging posts, than helpful posts. But i was kind of surprised by his response. i don’t let it bother me though. Everyone is entitled to opinions, unfortunately lol Not everyone to like everyone, if you know what i mean. And yeah haters will hate.
One of my new years resolutions was to spend less time arguing with strangers online. That only last like a day haha. I like to converse/debate constructively. Trying to keep an open mind. Which is why its annoying to me when their arguments turn to “well you don’t know how to fish” or ” liberal sheep” or some bs polarized response. Like if you arent added something to the conversation, just dont reply.
