Here is the interactive map, which using the filters/layers really helps show what work is planned and where…. timeline ect.

Even if the master plan is horribly wrong, i do like seeing that they are doing SOMETHING.

This post has changed from me looking for somewhere to bring my trailer for service, to me repairing it myself.
I replaced the two bunks for the keel of the boat, adjusted the bunks as good as possible with the limited adjustments on the trailer.
While replacing these bunks I noticed my brake pads were looking rough so I decided to order everything I needed.(I knew my brakes needed attention). Since my trailer has integrated hubs/rotors I had to replace the entire hub/rotor just to change the rotors, so I changed out the bearings as well. I Purchased the stainless version of the brake pads while I was at it since the steel pads rust and separate from the backing plate. $800, 2 days of working on it, and a sunburn later, I have working trailer brakes. I still need to bleed them a little more but I towed the boat yesterday and you can certainly tell the difference
Let this be a PSA for everyone, check your trailer brakes, hubs and bunks. This trailer is only 4 years old and not used that frequently.
All 4 wheels, 8 pads had detached from their back plates… it’s amazing it didn’t catch fire from rubbing.

Penn makes good quality stuff. I have a somewhat expensive Lews reel that sucks. On the other hand I have 1-2 of Penns cheapest reels that work great. And their fierce series stuff is great at the price also.

Delayed post trip report from 8/17/24-8/18/24
I’ve been debating on whether or not to even make a report on this trip, because it didn’t exactly pan out, but i feel obligated to make some kind of report.
First off, the trip was awesome. I had a great time, but not because we caught our limit of trout, reds, or snapper, but because i got to spend a weekend out of town, down in grand isle and made memories with my family.
The plan was to target trout and possibly red snapper, get there early Friday afternoon and find live bait for offshore fishing… I say possibly target snapper here, but i probably over sold the idea to my wife, since that’s what she and myself were looking forward to the most…. Grand isle marina had no bait, so i foolishly thought ” eh ill go cast net me some bait fish in the morning”…
Saturday morning i was up @0430 eager to start the morning… Left the dock right before nautical twilight and headed to some nearby islands to try to catch bait… that didn’t happen, So we gave up and headed out to the first rig. (during all this live bait BS i kept thinking about Devin’s theory on why live bait sucks) As is typical when you need the wind to lay down, it doesn’t. So we were fishing in rougher than-id-prefer conditions, in 90 degree heat with my wife and 2 year old…. Within about 30 mins of stopping i was feeling sea sick… after vomiting my brains out for 10-15 mins we decided to head in and cool off…
Went back around 11 to try to fish inshore, fished for maybe an hour or 2 before my son was looking heat exhausted so we headed in with only 2 keepers on Saturday.
We went over to the new pier Saturday night, letting my son fish off the pier, catching white trout under the lights ( i’ve always loved fishing the lights in the summer). After that we went out to eat at hurricane hole, which was decent enough. Great service that’s for sure.
Sunday i decided we should stay inside first then head offshore, figuring if nothing else we would at least catch some trout. So we headed to “cat bay” area, as that’s where we caught the 2 on Saturday. Moved around a while catching some nicer trout (for august). We caught 6 keeper trout, then headed further offshore than we had the previous day. First 2 rigs we caught little sharks, started to get that ” im going to keep trying till we catch something” attitude but it did me no good. Lots of break offs on 40Lbs test leader line. No clue what those were.
Offshore both days the only fish we got to the surface was sharks. So that was disappointing
Honestly, im in WAY over my head trying to fish offshore. I have no first hand experience to go off, and a undersized boat for the conditions. Anytime conditions keep me from going over 20mph, that makes for a tough day, which is what we experienced both days.
So thats the fishing report. Here are my thoughts and experience launching and staying at grand isle marina: So for $125 a night you get a room with a queen sized bed and bathroom, HOT shower, mini fridge, and microwave. Considering you are staying at a marina, i knew it wouldnt be the hilton, so my expectations were in line with that.
For boats under 24′ they offer a free “slip” (a spot to store your boat in the water overnight).First come first serve, all you have to do is give them your registration numbers off your boat. Make sure you bring at least 3 dock lines. Even though the marina area seems protected from waves, it really is not so make sure your tied up good each night. For anyone with power poles, they work excellent for keeping the rear boat from swinging around, and since water surrounding the slips is under 10′ they worked well.
They have a restaurant on site cooking lunch and dinner (most everything we tried was good enough), They have a legit convenience store on site with gas, beer, food, snacks ect. They also have a bar if that is your thing. All in all a great place to make a fishing trip, with everything you need in one place.
We will be back here, as well as looking at other places to replicate this trip, such as delta marina.
Pics to follow.

Awesome man. That is great info, as i know im not the only person who is newer (didnt grow up “driving grand dads flat boat” kind of deal lol) to boating in general. I think general boating information, but customized to our region is great. Like the white pole video. I remember when i bought my boat in 2020, going to bay eloi and thinking WTH are all these poles? Then found your article on it. idk, im giving you feed back i guess ha

Agreed… If a member wants to tell something to one member in particular and not blast info to the whole group.

I fished on monday, forecast showed 5-7mph all morning(something along those lines) Went out and fished in 20+ mph east winds… this has happened on my last 5 or so trips this month…. either its unbearably hot, or 20mph wind… cant catch a break with the weather…

As much as I love the idea of fishing straight mono, I personally can’t go back to it. I’ve tried on a number of occasions to use mono, particularly in the winter. I like the stretch of the mono while actively jigging, but when it comes to detecting the bite, braid takes the cake.
I think if I switched every pole I owned to mono after a while I may adjust, but switching back and forth is hard for me

MemberAugust 27, 2024 at 7:07 am in reply to: LOWRANCE USR TRAIL VERSION 6 NOT SUPPORTED?Thanks Devin. I’m not certain what year the unit was made, but it was purchased new with a new boat in feb 2020, so it’s probably like a 2018-2020. Agreed on the proprietary formats. These MFD/gps units shouldnt require a degree to operates either. The owners manual is like 200 pages or something crazy like that.
I started to dig deeper yesterday but had my hands full with other stuff.
Next time I’m by my boat I’m going to see if I can export it in another format .

The only thing I don’t like about the marker 54 is the longer shank hook, it tends to hook the trout deep, which is a double edge sword. Great when your on keeper fish and keeping fish, not so great for catch and release.

i use that berkley vanish leader line normally 10-20# with 20# kastking braid. Some exceptions ( light baits, clear winter water ect.) Cheapest stuff i can find lol. If i still have leader line after a few years, mainly on the boat, ill get rid of it since i think UV rays degrade it.
