“We were a little frustrated as we kept finding the perfect formula for smacking the trout but we weren’t catching much.”
That’s exactly what I’ve been seeing: lots of bait, hardly any trout. There just aren’t as many trout as there used to be. I think they’re coming back though.
” I threw a cast out and never saw my jighead hit the water and thought it flew off, turns out it got wrapped around a bird and I had to fly it like a kite for 5 mins trying to reel it to the boat”
That’s hilarious. Glad to know it’s not just me. I just reel them in, untangle them and take their picture. I show them to non-fisher people and explain that I can call birds to land in my hand. Some believe me.
“We were both hyped about catching our limit, but at the same time I have mixed feelings about smacking them under birds within sight of the dock. It kinda feels like cheating and that we didn’t earn it or really “figure them out” if that makes sense? Maybe I just can’t be content haha.”
No, you did great! You made the best of the conditions that were given you. Next time you go you know what to look for, so knock out your fish then use that extra time to go explore somewhere else. Or just know you will probably catch them on that pattern anyway and use that time to go find something else. Otherwise, I’d be stoked to go on a fishing trip like yours. Sounds like a good time.
“Also, we realized today after looking at a picture that we only left with 29 keepers and not 30. We must have clicked the fish counter one to many times, so I’ll count 1 of those 2 keepers I accidentally threw back”
I can’t count either. You’re in good company. lol
Great report! Thanks for posting!

Looks good. Thanks for using the forum to this end.
Shrimp boats use Brady Lagoon, you’ll do great.

Also, I caught enough 12″ fish to keep 25 speckled trout, if the old limit was still in effect. Just something I wanted to note.

“FRIDAY
East winds 15 to 20 knots with gusts up to 30 knots. Waves
3 to 4 feet. A slight chance of thunderstorms. A chance of showers,
mainly in the morning.”I’m going anyway but will remain protected to the best of my abilities.

Then I’ll run down the middle of the marsh to try some spots in Bayou Biloxi itself then jump into Lake Borgne using one of two shortcuts that I plotted out and hit some bayous draining into Lake Borgne. I’ll be in the lee of the land the whole way back and then hit the Rock Dam at the end.

The developers I hired aren’t pulling through on what I thought would be a 30 day project. It’s been a giant money and time suck for me and I am about *this close* to saying “screw it” and giving up.

This is a great report. It’s good to see the consistency. I’ll have to get down there, but for now I’m just going to stick with the plan I made. Great report, thanks for posting!

Well, that’s interesting. I’m going tomorrow and planned on Bayou Biloxi and the Rock Dam but now you have me thinking I need to pick out a buncha spots in Lafitte and give that a whack.
Great report! It sounds like that side of the river is doing great!

Yeah, it’s the best time of year to catch ’em and it’s just being weird. I wouldn’t mind the warm water temp so much if the wind would just chill out.
I see that there will be a window of calm wind in Venice tomorrow, and I have thought of trying it, but my luck it would lure me down there, then change and I’d be screwed. I’m probably, once again due to the wind forecast, gonna stay close to home. If the tide was better I’d head down to PAC, Dulac or Lafitte.
With that said, in 2016-2017 we had a warm winter and Lake Pontchartrain was banging on all eight cylinders from October to April. It was insane. But the wind played nice. That year Chas caught an 8 pounder, IIRC. Lots of fog, too. Great for trout. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that happens.

Tuesday is gonna be a neapy tide, but that northeast wind may drop the water for you. I’d be ready to fish rock piles or the weirs or even go Plan Redfish.
I might head down there Monday or go to Lafitte. I haven’t made up my mind yet. Or Venice. I just hate the tide and the wind!!! This November needs to get right!! lol

That’s a lot of fish!!

Yes, indeed! I am glad you can see that light. I’ve only tagged about 1,500 fish and real OG’s like Charlie Bush have tagged thousands more. I think it was something like 10,000. Anyway, I would keep those fish with me in the boat for awhile and they were fine. I put out a lot of video of it in 2016-2017 but people have memory like a goldfish. lol Catch and release is fine. The biggest proof in the pudding for me is when the people against conservation started using this talking point when they never had in the years before.

lmao
Yeah, I can kiss that A-rig goodbye if the worst happens. I’m alright with that, it will be epic. It’s just sitting in the garage not doing anything anyway lol
