A saved round: the water in the immediate outfall of Neptune Pass is FAFO territory. I know some channels are marked, but the sandbars are not, and there’s a ton of them. There’s no reason for you to go that way given what you’ve planned, but circumstances could bring you there (storms) and that’s something to consider and prepare for. If not for you, then some other person reading this.

“I made a quick route, is this route passable?”
Yeah, I’m 99% positive that route is good. Maybe take it slow coming out of Baptiste Collette and look for obvious markers to get out. Be careful on the south side of Breton Island, it is shallow there. On GED you can see the old part of the island and today that is a sand bar that loves to gobble up boats.
Yes, Breton Island can be good in the spring, and that depends a lot on the river. If she’s high and dumping all over the island, then it’s probably a no-go.
It’s probably easier to launch from Hopedale Marina or Campo’s and make the run. While you will have to cover more open water than coming from BC (14 miles vs 7 IIRC off the top of my head), you will have more stuff to fish along the way, such as Lake Athanasio, Long Rocks, Five Wells, 32 Block, Compressor Rig and Dope Boat, to name a few. Pretty much anything that sticks out above the water. Making a move to Comfort Island doesn’t put you out of range, either.
If the river is up, I’m not sure what you can fish near the launch or on the way to Breton Island.
During spring and especially summer you are getting up super early. Not sure you want to put that on top of the drive to Venice. Launching from Beshel’s would be less time consuming, even though that launch sucks. The marsh outside of Beshel’s turns on for redfish when the river hits 10ft and dropping. So Plan Redfish is something to consider. And on your way out of Beshel’s you can hit Stone Island and the rigs past it.
The structure of Breton Island has changed since they dredged it. Where I would usually fish is the inside of the island, by the ruins of pilings you can see on GED. It was little deeper, but since they dredged it the inside of the island is 2ft or shallower. Kinda of a no-go for fishing speckled trout. I’m not saying they’re not there, I’m just saying that the bottom structure changed and when that happens the fishing usually changes.
The boat you have for running the Sound is great. I’ve been out there in a 32 foot Contender and when it was rough it was still a rough ride even in that big boat. Your boat is good to go, just make those windcalls and get our feedback to be warm and fuzzy about them.

“Northshore man made canals are probably still pretty good if this rain hasnt messed them up.”
It hasn’t.
“Boys had a fun boat ride and practicing their casting without backlashing.”
That’s awesome!!!!
Geoghegan and those canals could be good, but I’m sure there’s already a boat parade there. I don’t know when I’m fishing next, so I haven’t put a lot of though toward it, but if I did go soon I would try to find them where I left off in Pointe a la Hache. I bet they’re in Oak River.
Well, like they say, gotta go to know. Thank you for posting a report.

Great discussion, I’m glad you brought this up. Thank you thank you thank you.
Okay, first of all, I would use Geosphere. Find it in the Fishing Trip Resources Course in the catalog. MODIS is getting phased out. Like, Aqua finna burn in.
After that, rainfall doesn’t dirty water. Runoff from rainfall dirties water. That’s what streams/creeks/rivers are. I would look at the Amite, Pearl, etc. rivers to dirty their immediate area when they rise.
Next, with the exception of Caernarvon at Delacroix, the Mississippi River doesn’t dump into any of those locations you mentioned. So, no worries there.
Yes, there’s the Bonnet Carre Spillway, but the Army Corps could open every single pin and not a drop of river water will flow through because she’s at 8ft.
The imagery you’re mentioning is proof that there’s always clear water somewhere. Always. That doesn’t mean going straight there is gonna limit out on fish, but it shows that the middle of Lake Pontchartrain after a stiff north wind is a no-go. That’s helpful.
I also see that East Bay is pretty green. That’s interesting. I think there’s an “edge” game there.
Like, I would use this imagery to see where the bleeding edge of river water is, and fish that area. I’d also cross reference it with GED imagery to pick out spots. There’s GED imagery with these conditions, or something near enough you can SWAG out a dozen spots and fish them. It’s worked for me for years, and definitely worked for me on the third.
I just edited the second half of that video today, and it was great reliving the trip. No boats. No flotilla. No dummies chasing Facebook posts and YouTube videos. Just having the freedom to break down the marsh and fish it accordingly. *ahhhh*

“It adds a little extra expense, but there’s nothing like waking up to your boat already in the water waiting on you ready to go.”
Amen to that. It sure is nice!
With that said, I’m pretty sure Hopedale Marina offers something similar, if your boat can fit under the bridge that’s right there. Venice is a way cooler experience, though. I’d rather stay the night in Venice.

I like that. Y’all should launch from Beshel’s. It’s a crap launch, but closer to Oak River and much more protected from the wind.
-
They’re not getting hammered to death by the Greater New Orleans Flotilla.
-
The many put out over the last two weeks! Mind boggling!
-
I think Oak River could be good, given the cold. I should have included Oak River in the post. Start at the west end by Spanish Lake and work outside. They must be somewhere in there.

Yes, I use a mono backer.
Used to, all braid was 4-strand. Then I guess somewhere along the line somebody figured out how to make it “rounder” with 8 strand. Eight strand is certainly smoother to the touch.
The way 4-strand is marketed now is that it “cuts through grass better”, which could be good for sight fishing around heavy grass mats. But I haven’t seen this property. Maybe with hydrilla it does, but our sloppy milfoil gets stuck around every kind of line, 4 strand or not.

IIRC, I got the idea from Capt Rory Rorison. Plus the colored line looks cool. lol

The only reason we had good fishing in the MRGO during The Freshening is because of the Rock Dam. If we didn’t have the Rock Dam then all that river water woulda flowed up to Shell Beach and The Wall, where we were catching lots of speckled trout.
Those people woulda been SOL during the height of The Freshening if it weren’t for the Rock Dam! Nevermind the MRGO should have never been built in the first place.

how cold was the water temperature?
