Dude, if I went to a brand new area and did what you did, I would be happy. No ripped off lower unit, nothing bad happened, you got in and out with your ass and have a handle on where and where not to go.
That’s what I do, but people don’t seem to remember those trips. Sometimes I do bang ’em on the first try, but my best fishing trips were the ones that took long term success to build up to them.
You did what 99% of angler are too scared to do: go somewhere else. lol That really is the case.
I haven’t been down that way, but I would consider fishing the Independence Island reef. That’s where I caught them back in April or whenever I went. All diving birds.
Also consider launching from Myrtle Grove. It could get you there faster than Lafitte, but I’m not sure without measuring it.
