“We were a little frustrated as we kept finding the perfect formula for smacking the trout but we weren’t catching much.”
That’s exactly what I’ve been seeing: lots of bait, hardly any trout. There just aren’t as many trout as there used to be. I think they’re coming back though.
” I threw a cast out and never saw my jighead hit the water and thought it flew off, turns out it got wrapped around a bird and I had to fly it like a kite for 5 mins trying to reel it to the boat”
That’s hilarious. Glad to know it’s not just me. I just reel them in, untangle them and take their picture. I show them to non-fisher people and explain that I can call birds to land in my hand. Some believe me.
“We were both hyped about catching our limit, but at the same time I have mixed feelings about smacking them under birds within sight of the dock. It kinda feels like cheating and that we didn’t earn it or really “figure them out” if that makes sense? Maybe I just can’t be content haha.”
No, you did great! You made the best of the conditions that were given you. Next time you go you know what to look for, so knock out your fish then use that extra time to go explore somewhere else. Or just know you will probably catch them on that pattern anyway and use that time to go find something else. Otherwise, I’d be stoked to go on a fishing trip like yours. Sounds like a good time.
“Also, we realized today after looking at a picture that we only left with 29 keepers and not 30. We must have clicked the fish counter one to many times, so I’ll count 1 of those 2 keepers I accidentally threw back”
I can’t count either. You’re in good company. lol
Great report! Thanks for posting!
